Ateles

2018

Ateles is a project on the complex social system of the spider monkeys, Ateles geoffroyi, found in the tropical forests of southern Mexico.

Ateles embraces the positive conservation movement and gathers the voices of local children and environmental educators to inspire positive actions. This series include scientific reports from the National Geographic explorers, Filippo Aureli and Denise Spaan, and members of the Liverpool John Moores University, the Universidad Veracruzana, and the NGO ConMonoMaya.

This short video shows the voices of children from the school Mario Francisco Castillo E. in Quintana Roo. This short video represented Mexico during the Conservation Symposium in 2018 at the Chester Zoo, in the UK. 

Ateles” is part of the third season of “Beyond Science” and consists of six episodes. This production was authorized by the Mexican Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources to make recordings in the protected area APFF Otoch Ma’ax Yetel Kooh at the Yucatan Peninsula.
